The
Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Bob Graham
(D-FL) was cited in USA Today
(May 14, 2002, p. 8-A) as saying that the US should should
slow down its plans to attack Iraq:
"Based on the intelligence
briefings he has received, Graham said Iraqi President Saddam
Hussein is not on the verge of developing weapons of mass
destruction. For that reason, he said, the administration can
afford to give United Nations diplomacy another chance to
work."
"If it doesn't, he said,
'at least we'll be able to say to the world that we took every
possible step' before resorting to force. A premature
strike could fracture the international coalition against
terrorism and prompt an anti-American backlash, Graham
warned."
