"Sanctions have affected us all in many ways," says 39-year-old cellist, Omar al-Sheikh, who works as an engineer by day.
"There are problems with the availability of instruments and of spare parts. One of my strings broke and I couldn't find a replacement."

350,000 March against the War in London

Commondreams.org  9/28/2002

The voice of middle-class England was how Debbie Mainwaring described herself yesterday as she stood amid the clamor of one of the biggest anti-war demonstrations ever, and it was clear that she was not alone. The sheer numbers who turned out to express vociferous opposition to military
action in Iraq – between 150,000 and 350,000 on the central London march – meant there was no way they could be dismissed as "the usual suspects" of the hard left.

Allied Airstrike Hits Iraq Facility

By PAULINE JELINEK, Associated Press9/9/2002

Bush at the UN:  "All the world now faces a test, and the United Nations a difficult and defining moment. Are Security Council resolutions to be honored and enforced, or cast aside without consequence?  Will the United Nations serve the purpose of its founding, or will it be irrelevant? ...The Security Council resolutions will be enforced, the just demands of peace and security will be met, or action will be unavoidable, and a regime that has lost its legitimacy will also lose its power." Click here for the full text of Bush's (9/12) speech. Kucinich in Wisconsin: "There is no reason for war against Iraq. Stop the drumbeat. Stop the war talk. Pull back from the abyss of unilateral action and preemptive strikes. It is time, instead, to explore more peaceful, consistent rhythms of the language of peace... The time has come for us to end the sanctions against Iraq, because those sanctions punish the people of Iraq because they have Saddam Hussein as their leader. We should end the sanctions against Iraq which have been instrumental in causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of children. We should also drop the self-defeating policy of regime change."  Click here for full (9/7) speech.

Plans For Attacking Iraq Began On 9/11
David Martin, CBS News,
Sept. 4, 2002

CBS News has learned that barely five hours after American Airlines Flight 77 plowed into the Pentagon, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld was telling his aides to come up with plans for striking Iraq — even though there was no evidence linking Saddam Hussein to the attacks.

That's according to notes taken by aides who were with Rumsfeld in the National Military Command Center on Sept. 11 – notes that show exactly where the road toward war with Iraq began...  more
